Stories Inside and Out
Rich with the scent of what is alive in us, this living is a road of return; discovering with tender attention what is the landscape we inhabit, inside and out. Come for a day of writing and performative play. In good company, let us digest, integrate and make words our own! What part of the story do we each have to tell? And what are the stories that allow more life to be lived. Life with all of its messy grief, pain, joy, beauty, wonder & absurdity. Discover the poetry in our senses & map the lines that connect the mythical realm to a world we can live in.
In this writing and storytelling workshop, Lizzy Shipman, artist and writer, will use the premise of her new book, to explore different topics of relationship to land, self, other and the creative process. Come craft words, through pen and mouth, embedded in a community of support and encouragement. We will draw on various exercises and prompts, taking time to gather our material from the land we are on. Workshop includes a copy of her new book.
1 Full Day Workshop Saturday (6 hrs)
Participants: 15
Cost: $80
Lizzy Shipman
Lizzy is a Toronto based artist & poet. Slinging words over her shoulder or taking refuge under a twice sprouted elder tree. Through her work, she contemplates the intersections of generating new understandings centered in our bodies, while having roots enough to handle the shakings and the joy of these reckoning times. She returns indefinitely to the need for ritual and soil, for community and cohesion. Her writing has been described as wedding the surreal and physical worlds as seamlessly as the natural world is. She’s working in fashion and is kickstarting her micro-publishing house (www.houseofmystery.org) with a recent publication of her poems and photography called And When You Came.
