Bow Drill Kit & Fire Making

$60.00

Join us in the Wood Guild this Spring to make your own Bow Drill Kit for fire making.

Have you ever been deep in the woods and realized your lighter is dead? If you are alive today, your ancestors likely made fire with a bow-drill. Join us to learn all you need to re-kindle the art of raising fire from friction.

With the help of hand tools, we’ll craft the four components of a bow-drill kit: Bow, Spindle, top rock and fire board. We will split boards, turn cordage, tie amazingly useful knots, fluff tinder bundles and hone our fire making skills. A jam packed workshop, all to elicit fire from sticks, friction and focus.

Dylan Paczay

I am moved towards harmonious alternatives to modern ways of living. Inspired by the natural world, I quest to make resilient life paths accessible for myself and to those around me. I have passion for transforming freshly fallen trees into useful tools and structures. I was raised around my father’s construction company and my teen years were spent at our family’s essential oil farm. Now and for the past 9 years, I’ve taught at outdoor schools in the Guelph area. Pushing my capacities as a craftsperson has brought me to study glassblowing at Blown Away, complete the tool and die program at Conestoga College, explore the depths of bushcraft, and opening a machine shop in Wellington County.
