Join us for a deeply meaningful, hands-on journey into the sacred art of hand drum making. In this skilled heart-centered workshop, you will be guided step by step through the process of creating your own ceremonial drum—from attuning to and working with the deer hide, to lacing, weaving, and “birthing” your drum into sound.

This experience is more than craft. It is a mindful ceremonial process rooted in respect, gratitude, connection and clear intention. As we work, our facilitator Biljana shares intercultural wisdom, visions, symbolic and personal stories, also traditional teachings that honour the universal Spirit of the Drum—the heartbeat that connects us to the Earth, to one another, and to the unseen realms of prayer, song and All Our Relations.

We will be working with white-tailed deer hides, that have been locally sourced and prepared by hands on the land at Coyote Tales specifically for your drum; making journey, sustainably sourced round pine wood frames; and rawhide lacing. Participants are also supported if they choose to artfully paint or embellish their drum’s wooden frame, before preparing and weaving/fastening of the Drum.

For the creation of a matching drum mallet (stick), you are encouraged to walk the land prior to or during the workshop to seek a piece of wood that speaks to you, or you may choose to work with a provided dowel (good for beading). All materials are thoughtfully handled in mindful collaboration and deep respect for the land, and are included in the workshop investment.

Participants who wish to bring their own selected materials or inquire about alternative drum frame dimensions are welcome to contact the me to arrange custom options.

Those who are participating in the Deerly Departed pre Skill Share offering are eligible for a special workshop rate in support of completing the full “hide-to-drum” journey/process.

Throughout our time together, space is held for reflection, connection, sacred sound & medicine song initiations. By the end of the workshop, you will carry home not only a beautiful hand drum, but also a deeper relationship with rhythm, intention, and awakening of own inner calling.

This workshop welcomes both beginners and experienced makers alike. Come with open hands and an open heart.
Registration for this workshop will close on Monday, May 4th in order to have enough time to prepare the drum materials.
